“Otis” - SOLD
17.1 hands : 6 year old : Clyde/TB : Gelding
Otis is a 6 year old Clyde/Thoroughbred gelding standing 17.1 1/2 hands high. “Otie” is a one of a kind, versatile, fun loving, big teddy bear of a horse. There isn’t much Otie hasn’t done. He has carried around the kids at local shows, schooled cross country, been used in lessons, taken first timers on trail rides, ridden on many hunter paces, and he also drives. If he hasn’t done it yet, he will be happy to learn it with you! He is currently schooling 2”9 with scope for more, and learning some basics of dressage. Otis loves being out of the ring too! Whether it be a hack around hunt country, a relaxed trail ride, or schooling cross country, Otis is your man.
In the ring, Otis is quiet, steady, and simple to ride. Otis has three great gaits, and is currently working on his walk to canter transitions as well as lead changes. He has a fantastic canter and great brakes. Otis pays attention to his surroundings in the arena, but is easily reminded to continue on the task at hand. Otis has jumped 3”3 fences and 2”6-2”9 courses with room to go higher. He has also helped the kids build confidence over smaller cross rails. He is learning about leg pressure and leg yields, and would make an excellent dressage horse with some more training. Otis will never go faster than what is asked of him, you set the pace and he will stick to it.
Off property, Otis is an absolute gem. He will bravely jump around cross country schooling. He has schooled mostly novice but has confidently done a handful of training level fences as well. Otis is a barn favorite for hunter paces and paper chases, whether you are looking to jump around or take a relaxed ride with friends, Otis will do the job. In the show ring, Otis does not disappoint. His first ever show was indoors with a 12 year old rider and he bravely carried her around like he had done it his whole life.
On the trails, Otis is a reliable partner and always brings a smile to his rider’s face. He loves water of all kinds. He will swim, cross rivers, streams, and creeks without a problem. If he could live in a pond he definitely would! Otis is used to riding with traffic, crossing roads, covered bridges, and tunnels. We have put first time riders and guests on him and he never disappoints. This guy will happily ride anywhere you point him. Otis will lead, follow, or ride in the middle of the pack.
In the barn, Otis is a love. He is gentle with the children and a pleasure to have around. He stands to be groomed, bathed, clipped, and tacked. Otis is happy living inside or out, and is turned out in a mixed herd of mares and geldings. Otis is a good boy in the field and gets along with whoever he is put out with. He is easy to catch and perks up when he sees his people coming.
Under harness, Otis is happy driving along country lanes and through the fields. He has been hitched to various farm equipment as well as the carriage. He has some experience driving on the roads and into town. Otis would do best with a confident and experienced driver as he is used to being driven in pairs or in a team.
Otis is a very special horse that we love having in our barn. If you want a fun horse that can go anywhere and do anything with you, Otis is your guy. This guy is so cool that he could be finished as a dressage horse, eventer, fox hunter, and be successful. He could do a different discipline every week and still be just as outstanding at whatever he’s doing that day. This guys is sound with no vices. He speaks for himself. Located in Gap, Pennsylvania. Priced at $25,000. Inquiries may phone 717-917-7213 or 908-645-2127.
